February 2007

Things are progressing at the building although we are clearly behind in the steel construction phase. In spite of the weather, we have been able to put in a whole new sewer system on the first floor parking garage. Last week, with the warming spell, we were able to pour cement and cover up the sewer lines and give us a steady surface to drive on in the garage. The contractor has completed the northeast stair tower and are currently finishing up in raising the elevator shaft up to the fourth floor(to house the overhead assembly for the three story elevator). The southeast stairwell is completed and awaiting steel stairs. The contractor has already put up metal framing for all the rooms on the second floor children's area and will be starting on third floor framing next week as well as starting to run electrical conduit and boring all the whole for plumbing.

November 2006

We are making good progress on the demolition of interior spaces and the window openings on the south end. We have completed a majority of the foundation work and are hoping to get steel work started by late December.  Please stop by the building to get a look at the progress we are making.

September 2006

Mark your Calendars now for Thursday, September 14, 2006 as we have our OFFICIAL GROUNDBREAKING ceremony at the new building!

Take a look at the most recent photos - just click on any photo to enlarge it!

August 2006

WE HAVE RECEIVED OUR PERMIT! Praise God! In just over four months, we maneuvered our way through the labyrinth called the City of Chicago Department of Construction and Permits and now have our construction permit! Now the fun starts, with demolition of the roofs starting this month......stay tuned as the building process begins to get exciting!

Click here to learn more about the new building and what it will be like.

The scaffolding is up around the building and we are getting ready for major demolition and construction.

June/July 2006
We have received permit approval from four of the permitting desks and should have the rest by July 15th. We are making great progress on some of the simpler demolition/cleanup projects. The whole inside is cleared of conduit and old wires and is ready for the permit! Check out the photos as we get closer and closer to demolition/construction!

April/May 2006
We met with the Alderman and representatives from the Planning department with Pastor Chuck Infelt of Holy Family Lutheran to talk about Sunday parking issues for both of our churches. Holy Family will lose their parking when the Carbini Green Redevelopment (Parkside of Old Town) begins. We are trying to get more permitted parking, either through a contract for Sunday spaces at the Police department or through some waivers of some requirements. We currently have 850 seats permitted in the worship center and would like to have 1,200 as we open next year.

March 2006
We have submitted our drawings for permit approval!! Now we have a four month process to go through each of the permit desks (plumbing, electrical, structural, environmental, sewer, etc). We are also getting close to selecting a financial institution to work with in financing the construction project.

February 2006
Things are progressing nicely on the drawings -- we will be submitting them in early March. We are looking closely at how we use each part of the building and are planning our the kitchen portion of the Park Cafe. It is so exciting to think we will have our own "hang out" space where people can stay after the service, curl up on a couch and read a book, grab a coffee and visit with friends or maybe just listen to the background worship music piped softly into the Park Cafe area. We are planning bike racks into our building plans so make sure you are getting limber as we use our bikes to promote "environmental friendliness and awareness".

January 2006
We are working closely with Doug Pasma, of Goss Pasma Architects to get our permit drawings completed and submitted for permit approval to the City of Chicago Department of Construction and Permits. We had estimated a mid-February submission of plans -- now it looks like three weeks later in early March. We have received good results from our environmental and soil boring tests. One of our contractors told us his assessment was that our building has "good bones" and the good soil density means we will be able to construct the worship center on the third floor with excellent steel reinforcement. Our Finance Committee has received a favorable preliminary financing proposal from a church lender that has more than 400 church clients. We met this month with the Alderman, Walter Burnett, and those meetings have been encouraging. He is a big proponent of this church being here and we look forward to continuing to build our relationship with him.

December 2005
As we approach Christmas, we are just awed at God's provision for Park's new building as we raised $8.9 million! -- 147% of our goal of $6.0 million!!! We had an awesome Celebration Sunday on December 11th, knowing that God showed up and worked mightily in this stewardship campaign in the hearts of His followers. We have also been busy on the building planning phase. We have been working closely with the Journeyland folks to reconfigure the children's area to provide for a central hallway and eight classrooms. These will be available for other classes and uses during the week. Our Finance Committee has engaged in discussions with several lending institutions to establish terms and conditions for construction and mortgage loans. While we expect to be out of our space at the end of our office lease next December, we are opening up dialog to see if we could get an extension as we get further along in the process. Many have responded in a HUGE way to the request to fund pledges in December. Thank you for getting us off to an amazing start!

November 2005
Commitment Sunday - Nov 20th! Thank you to everyone who participated in the Imagine More campaign on Commitment Sunday on November 20. It was a glorious service, highlighted by more than 11,000 small white lights, representing the future lives that God has called us to reach within the next few years. If you were out of town that Sunday or were not ready at that time, you can still participate! Call the church office at 312.280.8828 and we'll mail you a commitment card, or you can download one right now from the "Campaign Resources" tab here on our campaign Web site (www.pccimaginemore.org). Just return the card by mail, drop it by the church office, or fax it to a confidential fax number at 312.896.9092.

Thank you for your prayers and for your participation. Our Imagine More stewardship campaign is just the start of a new, exciting chapter in Park's life, as God calls us to share the Gospel, renew this world-class city and impact the world. If you have any questions about the campaign, please e-mail Steve Lavey at slavey@parkcommunitychurch.org.

September/October 2005
We continue to work on the final design with our architects. Over the last few weeks, we had more than 75 people show up for our own Construction Connection ministry to do some demolition on the building. It was a great time of hard work, fellowship and an inpiring lunch view! See the photos below:
